The Accureacy is a Greek The Cure tribute band, the first dedicated and only one currently in Greece.
Based in Thessaloniki, Greece - located in northern Greece, the largest greek city after Athens - the band was formed in late October 2009 by Johnny Papaioannou. Johnny started playing guitar, bass, keyboards and drums in the late 80s, inspired by The Cure, and the idea of forming a Cure tribute band sometime, eventually set in his mind.
Greg Dimitriadis, a fellow drummer and also a Cure fan, was in Johnny's plans for such a band, if and when additional members were to be found for that project. A somewhat difficult task, as they had to have that extra "cure-ness" playing attitude, which was hard to find.
Several years later, in 2009, Johnny happened to watch a series of YouTube videos of a guitarist who was playing over The Cure tracks very nicely. There are hundreds of such videos on YouTube, but these particular ones were somewhat familiar: his nickname resembled a greek word and his furniture and room were very greek-styled. As fate had it, Dimitris Kalaitzis turned out to be living in Thessaloniki too.
The timing was perfect. Sophia Christakopoulou (Johnny's then girlfriend and now wife) had started taking drums lessons a few years ago and the couple had setup a home studio to play music in. Johnny and Sophia arranged for a meeting with Dimitris in their home studio and he joined them.
Greg, besides the drums, knew how to play the guitar and keyboards up to some level, and he was more than happy to participate in the band under these new roles and not as a drummer, since Sophia held the drummer spot.
Costas Karantzios, the singer of "Background Noise Suppression" band, in which Johnny was the bassist, was offered the vocalist spot. Costas, although not a hardcore Cure fan, had the needed package: he did like The Cure a lot, had many years' experience in singing, a very nice and similar to Robert Smith's voice, lived nearby and had the ability to play a little guitar, when needed.
And so, The Accureacy was fully born in November of 2009.
During 2015, Greg left the band for various family reasons and the remaining four imaginary guys started looking for his replacement. They rehearsed and gigged temporarily as a fourpiece with pre-recorded keyboards. Eventually, Areti Makrolivaditi joined the band as the keyboardist in 2018 and Lefteris Chatzisavvas replaced Costas on vocals in 2019. Since 2022, Costas was back in the band and The Accureacy continued with both vocalists. Greg Marinikas joined the band in 2023 as a second guitarist.
The Accureacy is firstly and foremost a "family affair": we are all close friends and that's reflected in the band. We are doing this mainly for our love of The Cure and our get-together-and-have-fun pleasure; and to give the opportunity to other Cure fans to attend an interesting gig, have a good time and even get together and meet with other Cure fans and ourselves .
Having played many gigs in Thessaloniki, Athens and other Greek cities, many Unplugged sessions, a Trilogy session, a Wish tribute session, sound recordings for tribute compilations and home video lockdown collaborations, the future lies ahead with more concerts, more unplugged sessions, more new songs and albums included, more of everything.
As Robert Smith himself often says: ONWARDS! XX
